Established in 1895, the Ardsley Country Club was founded with the support of some of the most notable and successful men in the country including Jay Gould, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Pierpont Morgan, William Rockefeller and Amzi Barber. In 1896, the club joined the USGA, one of the first fifteen clubs in the country to do so. It was a charter member of the Metropolitan Golf Association and one of the founders of the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association. In 1898, Ardsley hosted both the third USGA Women’s Amateur Championship and the second Intercollegiate Golf Championships. The golf course at Ardsley has seen many changes over the years. The original layout was designed by Scotsman Willie Dunn, who called the course “the finest golf grounds in the world.” It was later reconfigured by two of the great golf architects, Donald Ross and Alister MacKenzie. More recently the club underwent an extensive renovation and restoration by noted architect Ken Dye. This renovation kept many features of the original golf course; tight fairways, small undulating greens, and rock outcroppings, maintaining the unique character of the layout.

Description
This course is very picturesque because eight holes were designed alongside the Hudson River and the rest are in the mountains. The greens are very fast and undulating, and the terrain is extremely hilly. This club has been listed by the USGA as one of the first one 100 clubs established in the U.S. "GOLF Magazine" named it to their 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America." William H. Tucker designed the second nine holes in the early 1900's, and Stephen Kay redesigned one hole in 1986.

Columbus went around the world in 1492. That isn't a lot of strokes when you consider the course. ~Lee Trevino
